Ninja Tune XX - Week XVII - The Cinematic Orchestra

This week's tracks come from one of the most important acts on Ninja Tune - the peerless Cinematic Orchestra. We're giving away two previously unheard tracks recorded in 2002 for a proposed Cinematic Orchestra radio show that was never broadcast:

'Time & Space (Radio Session 13th May 2002)' - a radically different early version of the epic tune on Ma Fleur featuring Leonard Nimoy samples.

'Brother/The Revolution (Radio Session 13th May 2002)' - a tune built around samples from the classic Gil Scott Heron track.

The Cinematic Orchestra have re-worked Lou Rhodes' 'One Good Thing' for the XX releases and there is also a previously unreleased track exclusive to the XX Boxset.

The Cinematic Orchestra will also be headlining the Royal Albert Hall on the 14th November, and are also playing XX shows in Paris and Berlin.

The Kid Koala Solid Steel Mix

Gloriously downbeat, textural and atmospheric, Kid Koala's lovingly crafted Solid Steel mix could never be released due to licensing issues. We've always thought that a great shame, and as such we're very pleased to offer it as this week's Ninja Tune XX giveaway... Enjoy.

Kid Koala will be playing the Ninja Tune XX live shows in Paris, Brussels, London, New York and LA, and has a brand new track as part of the XX releases.

You can pre-order the Ninja Tune XX Boxset now.

22.08.10  DELS 'Shapeshift' Remixes Download EP Out Now

Download 4-track EP on iTunes or Ninjashop now. Remixes come from Kwes, Ghostape and Eli-T.

DELS has been creating a buzz ever since John Peel heard him as a teenager and put him on the radio - now he’s ready to re-write the rules of rap in the UK in a way that hasn’t happened for years.

'Shapeshift' is a perfect place to start. The beat is courtesy of long-time collaborator Joe Goddard, better known for his work as part of Hot Chip. Goddard hooks up some ultra-squelchy, off-kilter electronic madness (as well as dropping in to deliver a poker-faced middle 8). Over it, DELS does what he does best, in this case taking us back to a childhood in which his biggest dream was to be able to turn into something else. It’s a proper recollection of childhood, its fears and well as its fun, not one of those fake lists of vintage products like Raleigh Grifters. DELS slams it out in a clear voice which shows the influence of Grime, while the cleverness of his punch lines and metaphors show he ain’t kowtowing to any of the many cliches of the form.

20.08.10  Ninja Tune: 20 Years of Beats & Pieces Exhibition

A unique exhibition showcasing art, design and photography from Ninja Tune's last 20 years.

20th August – 16 September 2010
Mon - Fri, 12-5pm
Black Dog Space
10a Acton St,
London WC1X 9NG

To celebrate the release of new book 'Ninja Tune: 20 Years of Beats & Pieces', the latest title in Black Dog Publishing’s Labels Unlimited series, Black Dog Space is presenting the exhibition 'Ninja Tune: 20 Years of Beats & Pieces'. This will be the first exhibition in the UK dedicated to Ninja Tune and its offshoot labels. The exhibition coincides with Ninja Tune XX, a series of events celebrating 20 years of the label.

Bringing together ephemera from two decades of Ninja Tune for the first time, the exhibition features posters, original drawings, paintings and 3D models and artwork from Ninja and its subsidiary labels, many never seen before outside of the Ninja offices; alongside a huge collection of flyers, stickers, special pressings, merchandise, promotional items, tour laminates, LP and CD sleeves, artwork, esoterica and more.

In the final week of the exhibition, Black Dog will open a one day Ninja pop-up shop, selling many items of merchandise and music at discounted prices, including posters, clothing, rare promo CDs and other miscellanea.
