Bonobo - Eyesdown
Simon Green aka Bonobo returns with one of the key cuts from his forthcoming album, “Black Sands”. Drawing as much on the rhythms of two-step as the lush soundscapes for which he’s best known, “Eyesdown” also features a remarkable vocal from Andreya Triana and enough fuzzed-out sub-bass for a binful of dubsteppers. Classic and contemporary, melancholy and exhilarating all at once, “Eyesdown” sounds like the kind of record Massive Attack could be making if they were starting out now.
Remix duties are taken care of by Floating Points and Warrior One. Floating Points got his break at London’s renowned CDR Sessions a couple of years back. Since then his re-edits have been picked up and championed by the likes of Gilles P and Joy Orbison. Here, he stretches the original out into a broken ballad, the vocals increasingly disembodied, the keyboards playing robot soul. Warrior One, meanwhile, give it some of their trademark ravement vibrations. Whilst Appleblim & Komonazmu do a dubbed out warm minimal version.
It’s the orignal, though, that will keep drawing the listener back – strange, beautiful, heartfelt and memorable, “Eyesdown” is a key staging post in Green’s continuing, remarkable musical development.

Jammer - Better Than
The Murkle Man returns, showing a very different side to his musical character than that displayed on “Party Animal.” Produced by Rapid (best known for his work with Tinchy Stryder) this bass-heavy, grimey, electronic production is the perfect platform for Jammer to strike back at the itty-bitty, wannabe grime stars who spend their time online giving the metaphorical middle finger to anyone more successful than them. That this is achieved with a fair amount of humour and the use of the occasional outlandish put down (“I’m a Lambo/You’re just a Z3”) is testament to a recording artist who keeps on striving to make better music rather than looking for an excuse to – metaphorically or otherwise – shank someone.
Jahmek Power aka Jammer is one of the true pioneers of the grime scene. A builder of bridges and peacemaker rather than a loose cannon, Jammer is one of the few people in London who can count both Dizzee Rascal and Wiley amongst his friends and who has worked with Jay Sean, Kano, Tinchy, Chipmunk, Boy Better Know and just about everyone else, underground and overground. And if none of them have a bad word to say about him, that’s because, at heart, Jammer believes more in music than he does in ego.
With a remix to follow from West Coast beat-maker (and part of Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder crew), Lorn, “Better Than…” should be enough to remind people that, contrary to current trends, you don’t have to rap about selling drugs and killing folk to be real. All you have to do is let your character shine through.

Lou Rhodes - One Good Thing
Manchester’s most cherished and acclaimed female soul returns with her most brutally raw record to date. ‘One Good Thing’ disarmingly documents the last two years of Lou’s life. With exquisite attention to detail, it was recorded over an intensive two-week period. This third album, which follows 2006’s Mercury Prize nominated, ‘Beloved One’, and 2007’s frank follow-up, ‘Bloom’, was recorded solely in live takes with minimal editing and overdubs to reflect the brutal rawness of its subject matter. Similar to those records, this is a bold collection of works that reflects a close personal unity between guitar and voice. Charting a vivid passage of her unfolding story, including the painful and unexpected loss of her sister ‘Janey’, it is tellingly the hope expectancy of opener ‘One Good Thing’, that resonates across the album as a whole. Lou admits to being an introverted character, someone who can only transmit her feelings through the delicate power of her song, and it’s those very bottled emotions that flood so readily across the eleven songs to form the LP.
‘One Good Thing’ also heralds the birth of Cinematic Orchestra’s new label, Motion Audio through Ninja Tune. With a longstanding mutual respect for each others’ music (Lou has regularly guested for the band live and on record), this will be Motion Audios first album release.
‘One Good Thing’ has a passive mystery to match its poetic imagery, and just one sensitive guitar, one romantic vocal, and a flurry of baroque strings are all that Lou Rhodes requires to reach the soul and allow it to resonate. It’s arguably her finest, most beautifully reflective work to date, and the UK’s most fascinating and articulate artist has reached to the very depths of her heart to speak it.
'One Good Thing' is released on 15th March, stream tracks here.

Juice Aleem Download
The mighty Juice Aleem returns with a new single packed with remixes, re-works and general goodness from his debut album, “Jerusalaam Come,” one of iTunes’ hip hop albums of the year, a Record of the Week in The Independent and a must-have for any self-respecting lover of MC-power.
The original of “Rock My Hologram” was produced by none other than Novamute star Si Begg and for this single Si has turned in not one, not two, but three separate remixes. Meanwhile, new Big Dada signing Offshore takes the original of “Higher Higher” and warps it out into a strange, Eastern-tinged banger. Juice then pulls in the posse cut to end all posse cuts over the orignal “Higher Higher” beat. Featuring Serocee, Rider Shafique, Charles Moopowe, Blackitude, Kosyne, TY, TheWhatSupreme and Justice Hotep, the words just keep on coming.
