hei
(Jeffrey Brodsky Remix)
by obli

— Released 4th May 2022 on Foreign Family Collective

obli shares a spirited remix of his new single "hei" from LA producer and composer Jeffrey Brodsky, out May 4th on Foreign Family Collective. Infused with warm strings, a smooth piano melody and an exceptionally catchy vocal sample, “hei” is a tasteful electronic single, just in time for spring. Brodsky's plunky take chops the airy vocal samples and applies a sturdy yet subdued beat, giving the song a mellowed electronica air reminiscent of Four Tet.

The original which was released on March 29th is off to a momentous start with global radio and tastemaker support from the likes of Hanuman Welch & Zane Lowe (Apple One), Sian Eleri (BBC Radio 1 / UK), Jenny Greene (RTE2 Music/IE), Zan Rowe (Double J/AU) and Jason Bentley (KCRW/US).

With only three singles and a four-track EP release to date, obli enters the electronic scene with fresh momentum and new ideas. Having played in bands his whole life, the solo project represents a new opportunity for the LA based producer – a chance to build something truly representative of himself – a mantra he has been holding onto as he methodically creates his next body of work.

Speaking on the recent single obli said: “I keep coming back to this idea about how music has always been there for me. I really want to make this new music feel more personal than anything I have ever done before. As I was working on this song, I asked my wife who is Norwegian to record a couple of voice memos as personal messages to me. She started the first one with “hei” which means hello in Norwegian and eventually ended up becoming the title of the song.”

In 2019 with only two releases to his name, obli’s music found its way onto a DJ mix from now FFC label mate Mild Minds. Upon hearing the mix, the artist-run label started and curated by ODESZA (home to artists such as RUFUS DU SOL, Big Wild, Jai Wolf, ford., Gilligan Moss, EVAN GIIA and more) was immediately captivated by his unique and personal sound. Officially signing with Foreign Family Collective in late 2019, obli released his debut EP ‘Change’ the following year. The EP garnered attention & support from the likes of KCRW DJ’s, press outlets such as Earmilk, Acid Stag, NUDE, as well as playlisting editors across DSP’s.

“hei” represents the start of a bigger chapter for obli — a chapter to create a body of work more personal and honest than ever before.
