A remarkably talented spaceship designer from the heart of the industrial midriff of the USA who began his illustrious career playing in tapioca bars and hotel receptions (you know the ones, red plush velvet and all that) before their erstwhile band-leader and group spokesman Clifford Gilberto (born in the middle of nowhere, delivered to the anthem of ‘The Girl From Ipanema’ to a Costa Rican housewife and
tequila-swigging banditofrom Germany) decided there was more to life than cocktails, dinner-jazz and middle-aged Americans and decided to take his band on the road. They arrived in England via cargo ship, which had en-route made visits to Deutschland,Khazakistan and the lesser known state of Niger.
From this epic adventure grew the sound that was later to be made legendary via the inscrutably classy Ninja Tune recordings.
The Clifford Gilberto Rhythm Combination makes noise that falls inbetween the clefts of Acker Bilk, Funki Porcini, Squarepusher and Linus, the piano -playing genius from Peanuts.
Clifford ‘s music is about having fun, not doing the same thing twice, and wishing about being a Motown star.Be prepared for Mr.Gilberto’s first album, charting this musical prodigy’s growth from the underbelly of the USA to the lingerie dept. of Ninja Tune, “ I Was Young and I Needed the Money"
